Historic Covered Bridge In Litchfield County Severely Damaged By Backhoe A historic covered bridge in Connecticut was severely damaged after someone towed a backhoe through it, officials said.  The West Cornwall Covered Bridge in Litchfield County, located in West Cornwall by the intersection of Route 128 and Route 7, was damaged on Friday afternoon, Dec. 23, when the backhoe struck multiple wooden beams that support the bridge's roof, according to the state's Department of Transportation.  Because of the severe damage, engineers are now analyzing the bridge, which will be closed for about a week, officials said. Body Of 20-Year-Old Drowning Victim Located Near MA Border The body of a drowning victim has been recovered in northern Connecticut near the Massachusetts border. At about 3:10 on Thursday, Aug. 26, Connecticut State Police from Troop C in Tolland, received a report of a possible drowning in the area of 21 Lyons Rd., in Stafford Springs.  A 911 caller reported that an adult male had gone into a swimming area and had not resurfaced.  CT State Police and Stafford Constables responded to assist the fire department in searching the area and located the body of the victim, now identified as Alaine Nitch-Ball, age 20, a resident of Stafford.&n…

According to police, Hartford County resident Melisa Doyle, age 33, of Manchester, was standing in the eastbound traffic lane when a 2009 Ford Focus SE struck and killed her around midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 3, near Exit 48B, the Capitol Avenue exit in Hartford. Covid-19: Police Break Up Large Party Near UConn Campus State Police broke up a large party that was held overnight near the UConn campus in Storrs in violation of COVID-19 pandemic guidelines. Just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, troopers responded to 160 Birch Road in Mansfield for a complaint of a large, loud party. Upon arrival, the troopers witnessed the disturbance and observed numerous college-aged students inside the residence.
