Cherry Clanton is charged with armed robbery, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon stemming from the Sunday, Nov. 6, incident, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.

A Dollar Tree employee said they saw Clanton stealing items during her visit over the weekend. When they confronted her about the shoplifting, Clanton pulled out a boxcutter and tried to stab the employee, authorities said. Other employees rushed over to help and pull the knife away, and she bit one of them on the hand, the prosecutor said.

Clayton gave police several false names when they came to arrest her, the DA's office said.
