Ashmont Grill In Boston Closing After 18 Years Of 'Smiles, Laughs & Friendships'

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" is the opening line on Ashmont Grill's post announcing the restaurant's decision to close after 18 years of "smiles, laughs & friendships."

The Boston business, located only a stone's throw away from Ashmont Station, has been serving "modern tavern cuisine" in Dorchester's Peabody Square since 2005, according to their website.

Ashmont Grill became a staple for townies to indulge in food, drinks, dance parties, barbecues, lobster bakes and wine clubs. This tight bond made the decision to close all that more difficult.

"After much thought and consideration (and lots of tears), it is time for us to graciously and proudly say goodbye to the community we love so much," the post continued.

"We are so grateful to have had you in our lives and we thank you for sharing yours with us. We never saw you as customers – we were always a family."

That sentiment was felt by loyal customers who flooded Ashmont's post with comments saying how much the restaurant has impacted their lives.

"I think I was there the first night, and hope to be there the last (plus many times before then!)," one person wrote. "What a gift to the community the Grill has been. Thank you Chris for creating the wonderful space and to the whole team for keeping it going for so many wonderful years."

"This is where my 'office' was during Sunday Brunch. Brunch turns to dinner, turns to...well if you were there you know," another person wrote. "So many stories so many wonderful memories and incredible staff. Thank you for the memories, the love, and the good times!"

"Family members" are openly invited to Ashmont's last day of service on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The tavern is located at at 555 Talbot Ave in Dorchester and is open Thursday to Monday from 5-10 p.m., for Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and for Sunday dinner 4-8 p.m.
