Comedian/Actress, Age 39, With Local Roots Is Remembered As 'Silly, Humble, Kind' A comedian and actress who got her start in Massachusetts in Northborough and Worcester died peacefully on Dec. 22. Casey Reuter Durkin, age 39, was a longtime resident of Northborough as well as Los Angeles. She was an actress, dancer, stylist, and comedian who worked with celebrities that include Beyonce, Faith Hill, Christina Aguilera, Snoop Dogg, and the Rolling Stones, according to her obituary in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Durkin may have been best known for her roles in “48 Hours to Live,” “Flock of Dudes,” and “Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning,” according to IMDB. One of …

'Nip Hunt' Captures Almost 50,000 Littered Bottles Over Weekend Tens of thousands of littered nip bottles were picked up over a weekend citywide cleanup and “nip hunt.” All in all, a group of volunteers picked up almost 50,000 littered miniature "nip" liquor bottles in Gardner on Saturday, Oct. 3. The hunt was sponsored in part by Anthony’s Liquor Mart, which put out a “bounty” on the tiny liquor bottles during the event - 5 cents per nip.  Owner James Kraskouskas said he paid out just under $2,500, according to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Search Resumes For Missing Boater In Reservoir An underwater search for a missing person continued this morning in Auburn. Auburn Firefighters said they are searching for a drowning victim in Dark Brook reservoir. Dive operations began Thursday, Sept. 17, and resumed Friday morning. The pond is also known as Electric Pond. The water covers 386 acres and can get up to 16 feet deep in places. There's a boat ramp off West Street.  Emergency responders were alerted to the missing person around 6 p.m., Thursday when several 911 reports came in saying a boater went missing in the water. Covid-19: New Shrewsbury Police Chief Tests Positive On the first day of his new job as Shrewsbury Chief of Police, Kevin E. Anderson has tested positive for COVID-19. Anderson, a 26-year-veteran of the town’s police department, was sworn in as chief July 20 - outside of the police department - just hours after he learned of the infection, according to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Anderson said he is not sure how he contracted the virus. The chief will likely not return to work for the rest of the week. Health officials have advised him to get re-tested on Monday, July 27.
