Fatal Shooting Victim ID'd In Springfield; 1 of 4 Gunned Down In City Last Week
Police identified the man shot and killed on Thursday, Aug. 10, in Springfield's South End. He is one of four people gunned down in the city last week. Gary White, 25, of Springfield, was shot just after 1:30 a.m. in the 500 block of East Columbus Avenue, Springfield police said. Police continued their assault on prostitution this week as they arrested five more Western Massachusetts men in an undercover "anti-John" operation, authorities said. This is the second time in as many weeks Springfield Police Department officers have targeted men who try to pay for sex, as they busted 11 on Thursday, June 15. Prostitution Sting: 11 Men Busted Offering To Pay Undercover Springfield Cops For Sex
An undercover prostitution sting in Hampden County earlier this week ended with 11 men being arrested for soliciting sex, authorities said. Springfield police officers posed as prostitutes on Thursday, June 15, in the High Street area and South End neighborhood, where neighbors had complained of "quality of life" problems such as sex workers and drugs. Police In Western Mass Ask For Help Locating Missing Man
Police in Western Massachusetts are asking the public for help locating a man who is missing. The Springfield Police Department is seeking help to locate 62-year-old Gary Belder. Belder left his home on Monday, July 5, and was believed to have been going to Smiley’s at 477 Boston Road, but he never returned. He has been reported missing before, but never for this long, police said. Belder is described as being approximately 6-foot-1, 200 pounds.
