Singing is currently banned in Massachusetts restaurants. On March 1, Massachusetts relaxed restrictions meant to stop the spread of COVID-19. The advance in Step 2 of reopening the economy, expanded capacity limits for restaurants and allowed for live music performances there. More of the Massachusetts economy will be opening within the next week - a move that will expand restaurant-capacity and bring back more live music. On Thursday, Feb. 25, Gov. Charlie Baker said that the state’s COVID-19 rates are declining at such a pace as to allow further expansion of the economy, according to WWLP. 19: Live Music Venue Seeks $40,000 To Survive Pandemic
A popular “guitar bar” known for hosting live music is seeking financial help from the community. In November, owners of Luthier's Co-op in Easthampton created a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $40,000. The money will be used to pay bills since COVID-19 has led to the closure of Massachusetts bars as well as capacity restrictions for indoor events and restaurants. So far, the intimate venue on Cottage Street has raised $8,700. Bugalu Ballroom Coming To Western Mass City
The Bugalu Ballroom is seeking a liquor license for the High Street events venue and bar. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Holyoke Licensing Board will hold a public hearing on the transfer of an annual all-alcohol license formerly held by TNT Pizza to Bugalu. TNT Pizza closed in 2019. Known for its live music and neighborhood atmosphere, TNT Pizza on South Street has been missed by area musicians. Bugalu Ballroom, 120 High St., is owned by Emily Ortiz Santos.
