The driver's name was not released.

The chase began in Winchendon after the driver assaulted an officer and sped away, authorities said. He led officers on a prolonged chase that ended in Ashburnham after he made a series of poor choices and ended up trapped in a woodline near the college prep academy on Route 101.

Ashburnham police said the standoff with the suspect ended around 9:45 a.m.

Mass State troopers originally said the school was locked down, but officials later clarified Cushing Academy remained operating as usual, though administrators were in constant contact with police.
