A Massachusetts Worker Adjustment And Retraining Notice (WARN) has been filed by Hampden Paper Inc., of Holyoke. In the notice, the company said it will lay off 49 employees effective Nov. 30. The company has about 100 employees.
Hampden Paper on Water Street is one of the few remaining paper manufacturers in the Paper City. The company has been acquired by LLFLEX, a packaging business.
LLFLEX said it is interested in combining its packaging with the laminating, sheeting, coating, and embossing capabilities - on paper, foil, film, holographs, and metal - at Hampden Paper.
Hampden Paper was started in Holyoke 140 years ago and has been owned by the same family for five generations, according to Kentucky-based LLFLEX’s announcement.
The Holyoke factory will stay open under LLFLEX, but is undergoing some changes and will be operational again in the early fourth quarter, LLFLEX said.
