Teen Steals Car, Goes On High-Speed Chase Through Springfield: Police A 17-year-old is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase across Springfield early Thursday morning, July 13, in a stolen car, authorities said.  The teen, whose name and charges were not released because of his age, allegedly smashed the window of a Hyundai and cracked open the steering column to hotwire the vehicle, Springfield police said.  Officers patrolling the area of Union Street heard tires screeching just before 3:30 a.m. and saw the stolen car speeding down the road without its headlights on. Killing In Springfield: Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Police in Hampden County are investigating a fatal shooting earlier this week, authorities said. The slaying happened around 11:20 a.m. on Monday, March 20, in the 0-100 block of Mattoon Street, Springfield police said. Officers responded to calls in the area and found the victim bleeding when they arrived.  Responders rushed the man to Baystate Medical Center, but he later died of his wounds.
