The bill, known as the Work and Family Mobility Act, was passed by a 32-8 vote on Thursday, June 9; a day after it passed through the House. It will become law in July 2023.

The vote means Massachusetts will become the 17th state in the country to allow undocumented immigrants to get their driver's licenses.

Baker vetoed the legislation in May and the House voted to override the governor’s veto 119-36 on Wednesday, WCVB reports.

At the time, Baker said "I cannot sign this legislation because it requires the Registry of Motor Vehicles to issue state credentials to people without the ability to verify their identity," the outlet reports.

However, Senate President Karen Spilka rebuttal's was “If other states can figure this out, I really believe Massachusetts has the smarts to figure this out as well," according to the outlet.
