Michael Irons, 46, of Gardner, pleaded guilty in January to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. A judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison last week, the prosecutor announced on Tuesday, May 23.

Police searched Irons' home in July 2020 and found two cell phones in his bedroom that contained 500 videos and 1,000 images of child pornography, the prosecutor said. Investigators found that Irons used the messaging service Kik to share the offending material, and he encouraged other members to do the same, authorities said.

Officers also found he had a Snapchat account, where he would solicit nude photos and videos from children, officials said.

Irons faced up to 20 years in prison, per federal sentencing guidelines.
