'Unsafe' Extension Cord Behind Malden Fire That Hospitalized 2 Firefighters The use of an "unsafe" extension cord was the cause of a three-alarm fire at a Malden home that hospitalized two firefighters and displaced nine people, officials said.  Malden Fire responded to the fire at 24-26 John Street around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, Malden Fire Chief William P. Sullivan and State Fire Marshal Peter J.
