18-Year-Old Drowns In Prohibited Swimming Area On In Gloucester: Police An 18-year-old has died after drowning in a prohibited swimming area in Gloucester, authorities said. Multiple rescue crews responded to the reported drowning at Vernon's Pit around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, Massachusetts State Police said.  It was there that the man was swimming with his friends and even jumped from a high rock into the water in the quarry, police said.
