A 25-year-old Beverly man was arrested and charged with vandalizing multiple buildings and flags with anti-LGBT graffiti in Salem, authorities announced Wednesday, Sept. 20. Mohammed Saeed Rajab pleaded not guilty to the charges in a Salem court and was ordered held on a $2,500 bond, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said. Dozens of pets suffering from animal shelter overcrowding were brought to Massachusetts from other states this week, animal shelter officials said. Get the carrots and heads of lettuce ready — more than 130 little critters in need of homes will be free to adopt for one weekend, animal shelter officials say. The MSPCA-Angell and the Northeast Animal Shelter are overflowing with small animals, so they will waive adoption fees for guinea pigs and rabbits on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17-18, MSPCA-Angell announced. About a month after 20 cats were rescued from devastating flooding in Kentucky, the MSPCA-Angell and Northeast Animal Shelter (NEAS) have welcomed another 26 cats to Massachusetts. The felines were displaced by flooding that started in July as local animal shelters struggled to house the sudden influx of animals.
