Cause Released For 'Strange Smell' That Hospitalized West Newbury School Student One student was hospitalized and multiple students nauseated because of a strange odor reported at a Pentucket middle school in West Newbury. Seventh-grade students in a third-floor science lab reported a strange odor around 10:00 a.m. at Pentucket Middle School on Monday, May 1, according to the public relations team for fire and school districts.  Thirty-nine students were evaluated at the scene, six of whom complained of symptoms including nausea. Driver Wanted For Crash Found In Woods Near West Newbury Elementary School A driver wanted for a crash in Newburyport was found hiding in the woods near an elementary school, prompting the school to go on secure mode for part of the morning, officials said.  West Newbury Police and Fire responded after the car was spotted in the woods near the Dr. John C. Former Merrimac Substitute Teacher Facing Child Pornography Charges A former educator in the Pentucket Regional School District was arraigned on child pornography charges on Tuesday, June 21, the Merrimac Police Department said.  Kenneth Niven, age 24, who substituted at Sweetsir and Donaghue Schools pleaded not guilty to possessing child pornography and photographing an unsuspecting nude person, police said.
