Massive System Will Bring New Rounds Of Severe Storms, Possible Tornadoes: Here's Timing A massive system stretching from the Midwest to the East will bring separate rounds of severe thunderstorms to the region amid high heat and humidity. According to the National Weather Service, the primary threats are locally damaging wind gusts that can down trees and power lines, along with heavy rainfall.  A few tornadoes are also possible, along with small hail. Tornado Watch Issued For Much Of Region, With 60 MPH Wind Gusts, Hail Also Possible As a slow-moving storm system barrels through the Northeast, a Tornado Watch has now been issued for much of the region until 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16. It includes parts of southeastern New York -- Long Island, as well as Westchester, and Putnam counties -- as well as all eight counties in Connecticut, and the following counties in Massachusetts: Berkshire, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, and Worcester. A few of the storms could become strong to severe, according to the National Weather Service, which noted that the primary threat from the system will be damaging winds. Gusts could be as high as 55 to 60 miles per hour and could damage trees and power lines and result in localized power outages.
