Man Admits To Killing 1, Wounding 2 More In 2020 Lawrence Shooting: DA

A 25-year-old Lawrence man who admitted to shooting three men and killing one struck a plea deal on Wednesday, May 31, and will spend up to 26 years in prison, authorities said. 

Hector Baez of Lawrence admitted to shooting and killing Delvis Paulino-Fernandez, 26, and wounded two others while they were at an outside function in 2020, authorities said.

Hector Baez was sentenced 18-to-20 years on a manslaughter charge, which will be followed by four to six years for a series of assault and battery and firearms charges, the Essex County District Attorney's Office. 

Baez faced a first-degree murder charge for shooting and killing Delvis Paulino-Fernandez, 26, of Lawrence, on Newton Street in Lawrence on May 3, 2020, the prosecutor said. He was attending an outdoor gathering. Two others were shot by stray bullets and were treated and released from  Lawrence General Hospital.
