Major Magleashe's Pub, at 268 Washington Street in Salem, officially closed on Wednesday night, Nov. 2, according to a Facebook post from local resident Zachary Antczak. He tells Daily Voice the owners decided to retire after "a good long run."
The weight of Antczak's words grew heavier after Salem Food Digest confirmed Magleashe's closing in a separate Facebook post.
"Yes it's true. Tonight is the end of an era in Salem," the post read. "Time is marching on, and The Major is marching on too."
The pub, which first opened in 1978, was known its juicy burgers and scrumptous steak tips, according to post from Boston Restaurant Talk. Magleashe's also offered over 20 different beers, their website reads.
Aside from their tasteful selection of food and drinks, the pub was also praised for its homey atmosphere – something that many loyal customers say is irreplaceable.
"[There will] never ever be a place like this in Salem again," one person commented on Salem Digest's post. "I’m sorry they are closing [but] hoping [the] owners enjoy retirement."
"Best wishes to Phil, Flash and the entire Major Magleashe’s Pub family," another person commented. "Thanks for all the good food and fun times spent there with friends over the years! You will be missed."
