First responders in Washington County made some bold rescues after a two-alarm fire broke out in a three-story Hagerstown apartment on Friday morning. Shortly after 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, crews from the Hagerstown Fire Department were called to the 100 block of East Washington Street, where there was reports of smoke coming from the building with people trapped inside. Officials say that a man has been apprehended and is behind bars after he got sloppy and left evidence on a destructive device in Maryland. Christopher Heinrich Beitzel, 53, is being held behind bars in a Maryland jail after the Garrett County man left fingerprints on a device he allegedly built and left behind at an area home, leading investigators to even more of his creations, the state Fire Marshal announced.
