Members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office busted two men with drugs and cash during a pair of separate traffic stops on Monday morning, officials say. Lexington Park resident Karim Martinez Bouarfa, 27, and 54-year-old Arcel Lamont Hall, of Lusby, were both arrested by deputies approximately three hours apart on April 22 as the agency made several proactive traffic stops. There was an increased police presence at Patuxent High School in Lusby on Friday afternoon after an implied threat targeting the building was made, officials say. A home was razed by flames in Calvert County on Sunday afternoon when a fire broke out, displacing a family and killing a dog in Lusby, officials say. Nearly four dozen firefighters from the Solomons Volunteer Fire Department needed around an hour to control a blaze that broke out around 4:30 p.m. inside a home in the 1300 block of Gregg Drive. An animal abuser will avoid prison time after hoarding dozens of rabbits and other creatures in deplorable conditions in Calvert County. Carol Badart VanWie, of Lusby, pleaded guilty in court to multiple charges involving her violations of animal cruelty laws after she left her pets in inhumane situations at her non-profit Bunny Magic and Wildlife Rabbit Rescue.
