Teen To Be Tried As An Adult For Fatal Shooting Of Girl Near DuVal High School: Police

New information has been released by the Prince George's County Police Department after they apprehended a 17-year-old for the murder of Jayda Medrano-Moore.

On Friday, the department announced that the teen suspect had been arrested and will be tried as an adult on multiple murder charges and other offenses for the shooting.

Investigators say that the 16-year-old Medrano-Moore was walking near the 9800 block of Palamar Drive after school on on Monday, Sept. 11 when a fight broke out between two groups of people who are involved in an ongoing dispute.

During that fight, the teen pulled out a gun and Medrano-Moore was shot and later died at an area hospital.

It is believed that the DuVal High School student was attempting to intervene when she was shot.

The 17-year-old is being held without bond after being arrested and charged with: 

  • First- and second-degree murder;

  • First- and second-degree assault;
  • Weapons offenses.

No information about his next court appearance has been released by the department.
