Two Airlifted To Hospital After Crashing Into Tree In Maryland Two people had to be airlifted to Maryland hospitals after a driver ping-ponged and crash landed into a tree in Mount Airy on Thursday afternoon. At around 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 4, first responders in Carroll County were called to the 500 block of East Ridgeville Boulevard, where there was a reported crash with people trapped inside a van off the side of the road. Upon arrival, crews from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company and Police Department found the van rested against a tree with two people still inside, prompting a rescue effort. Police ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck Crossing Busy Maryland Road Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Mount Airy earlier this week, authorities say. Alex Fernandez, of Mount Airy, was killed after being struck around 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the 1000 block of Ridge Road, according to Howard County police. Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision. The driver and sole occupant of the Chevy remained at the scene and was not injured in the collision. Ridge Road was closed for around five hours after the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
