A Maryland man has been convicted on multiple offenses stemming from an alleged illicit incident with an 8-year-old girl in Charles County. Waldorf resident Jose Eugenio Escobar-Argueta, 34, may spend more than a decade in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offenses involving the child, officials said. A middle school student inside a Maryland middle school saw something, said something, and could have potentially helped avoid a tragic situation. In Charles County, on Thursday, Dec. 1, officials said that during lunch hour, a student at Milton Somers Middle School made statements in front of several other teens about bringing a gun to school and causing harm to others. A Maryland man will spend a decade in prison and must register as a sex offender after admitting to sexually abusing a minor, the state's attorney announced. Waldorf resident Clarence Henry Henderson, 30, pleaded guilty in Charles County to sexual abuse of a minor and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Upon his release from prison, Henderson will be on supervised probation for five years and must register on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life, according to Charles County State’s Attorney Tony Covington. A 39-year-old man will spend decades behind bars after being convicted of attempted murder in Maryland for chasing a man with a shotgun and shooting him in the head, authorities announced. Waldorf resident William Anthony Smothers, 39, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the attempted murder of James Rudd, Jr. and related charges, according to the State’s Attorney for Charles County. A convicted felon who was wanted in Maryland is facing new charges after being busted with an illegal firearm and methamphetamine, authorities announced.
