A crew of more than two dozen firefighters from the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company and nearby agencies were called shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning to the 2200 block of Queensbury Drive in Fallston, where the homeowners advised that a fire broke out in a bedroom.
Firefighters were quickly able to knock down the flames, officials say, and contained the damage to the one bedroom, though approximately $50,000 in damage.
According to the fire marshal, the homeowners woke up to smoke, which led them to the fire in a bedroom. He was able to control it with a garden hose until becoming overcome with smoke as firefighters arrived to finish the job.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an actively charging lithium ion battery for a rechargeable headlamp.
"Firefighters were able to contain the fire in one bedroom," a spokesperson for the fire marshal's office said.
"Investigators credit the fire department's quick response, which subsequently minimized the damage, allowing investigators to determine the final cause of the fire."
