Frederick resident Jason Idell Chenevert, 41, put police officers through their paces on Thursday night following a domestic disturbance and robbery that was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Ballenger Drive.

Officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to the call, where they found a family member who had allegedly been assaulted by Chenevert, who fled the area before they arrived to the area.

Police say that while they were speaking with the victim, Chenevert returned to Ballenger Drive, where he refused to comply with officers' demands to get out of his vehicle, then took off, launching a pursuit that resulted in an attempted traffic stop in the area of Jefferson Street and Route 340.

However, Chenevert had other ideas, and he fled again, prompting a second pursuit onto the westbound lanes of I-70, continuing on to West Patrick Street, where Frederick Police abandoned their efforts and Maryland State Police troopers took over.

Chenevert was followed back to the 300 block of Ballenger Center Drive, where he barricaded himself inside the vehicle, leading to a lengthy standoff that included armored rescue vehicles that were brought in to prevent him from fleeing the scene a third time.

Surrounded and running out of options, police say that Chenevert got out and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, though he wasn't quick enough to get away from a police K9 that was deployed and he was apprehended.

Both Chenevert and a Frederick Police officer suffered minor injuries during the incident and were treated at an area hospital.

Once he was released from the hospital, Chenevert was arrested and charged with:

  • Strong armed robbery;
  • Assault on a law enforcement officer;
  • Second-degree assault;
  • Disorderly conduct;
  • Failure to obey a lawful order to prevent a disturbance to public peace;

He's being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
