6 Tornados Touched Down In VA, MD: Here's Where The National Weather Service confirmed seven tornados touched down in Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia on Wednesday, June 5 — six of them in the DMV alone. The NWS sent four teams to cities across the region to survey storm damage and found a warm front slowly lifted northeast across the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia into northern Virginia, along with central and northeastern Maryland.  At the same time, low pressure tracked along the warm front causing severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to develop. Life In Prison For Son Responsible For Butchering Mother In Maryland: State's Attorney An Anne Arundel Judge has ruled that a 26-year-old man spend life in prison for the grisly murder of his mother in their Tracy's Landing home in 2021, authorities announced. Andrew Beavers was sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his mother, cybersecurity executive Juanita Naomi Koilpillai, 58, whose body was found poorly outside of their home after being reported missing. Wegmans To Get Rid of Plastic Bags By End Of The Year Customers will soon no longer be able to get single-use plastic bags at Wegmans stores in Virginia, the company announced this week.  The grocery chain said stores in Leesburg, Dulles, Potomac, Lake Manassas, Virginia Beach, and Charlottesville would stop using the bags beginning on July 1. Wegmans in Fairfax and Richmond counties have already phased out single-use plastic bags.  Customers can purchase paper bags for 5 cents each or bring reusable bags for their groceries.
