Mayday Called During Two-Alarm Maryland House Fire All occupants inside a St. Mary's County home were able to escape a two-alarm fire that broke out in Chaptico on Monday morning, according to officials. First responders from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and nearby agencies were called around 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5 to a working basement fire with mayday in the 36300 block of Notley Woods Lane.  Upon arrival, crews reported that there was smoke coming from the roof of the residence after rapidly spreading from the basement to the rest of the residence.
