19 Masks To Be Worn In More Situations, For Longer Under New Regs
People are required to wear their face masks for longer and in more situations under the newest economic restrictions to fight the spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. On Sunday, Dec. 13, Massachusetts rolled back the economy to Step 1 of Phase 3 - a move that reduces restaurant capacity, and closes indoor performance spaces, among other things, according to an outline provided by the Governor's office. COVID-19 vaccinations are expected to arrive in Massachusetts today, Monday, Dec. 14, just as Gov. Charlie Baker increases economic restrictions to stop the spread of the disease. By Pfizer and BioNTech, the vaccines are the first authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration. The United Kingdoms began using the vaccine last week. Some businesses that opened just a few weeks ago will be closed as 13 Massachusetts cities and towns take a step back in reopening their local economies. COVID-19 rates that have spiked over the last several weeks are forcing 13 cities and towns to rollback their local economies to Step 1 of Phase 3. In a bit of good news, the City of Worcester's positive test rate for COVID-19 infections took a nosedive compared to last week. The 14-day rate of positive COVID-19 tests in Worcester dropped from 2.6 last week to 1.7 this week, the Baker Administration reported July 22. Meanwhile, in Worcester County, Spencer has become the municipality with the highest rate of positive COVID-19 tests, countywide, over the past 14 days (2.3 percent for Spencer), followed by West Brookfield, Westborough, and Worcester. A new study has found that only four states are safely reopening their economies. The states -- New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and New Hampshire -- have met at least four out of the five benchmarks that show a community is making strong progress in battling the spread of COVID-19, according to a Vox analysis of COVID rates and best practice recommendations.
