Mass Ranks Among Safest States To Use Public Transportation: Study
Massachusetts residents have read plenty of MBTA horror stories, but those are outliers according to a new report that ranks the Bay State as one of the safest in the country in public transportation. Massachusetts came in eighth in the United States for public transportation safety, according to a pre-settlement legal funding company, High Rise Legal Funding. The report analyzed data on bus fatalities between 2010-2022 from the Bureau of Transport Statistics, as well as rail accident data for 2022 from the Federal Railroad Administration. 'Heart of Gold': Eastern Mass Man Dies Saving Wife, Child In NH; Community Rallies
A 37-year-old man died trying to save his wife and her child who got caught in a river's current, officials said. Vincent Parr, of Lawrence, died on Sunday, Aug. 20, after jumping into the Swift River in Albany, New Hampshire, to save his wife and her child who got stuck in a part of the river with fast-moving water, according to New Hampshire State Police and a GoFundMe for Parr's funeral expenses. Massachusetts Named Best State To Live In (But Not The Cheapest), Study Says
Massachusetts residents can sit comfy knowing that their state was ranked the best place to live by a new report. A new study by WalletHub studied 51 factors that impact livability and compared the results for all 50 states and found that the Bay State won out over all others. Massachusetts led the pack with a score of 61.67, narrowly beating out the second-place state, New Jersey, which scored 61.48. Botanists rejoice. A plant that has never been seen in Massachusetts before was spotted growing in Berkshire County. Meet the pine-drops plant. Police say a 66-year-old Malden man with an "extensive" criminal record injured a baby when he smashed in the windows of the car the infant was in with a baseball bat, authorities said Sunday, July 30. A Chelmsford police sergeant was rescued over the weekend after he suffered a medical issue while hiking in the New Hampshire mountains, authorities said. A 77-year-old man from Massachusetts was killed after his van crashed into part of a bridge in New Hampshire this week, according to authorities. New Hampshire State Troopers responded to the crash on I-95 North in Seabrook around 8:11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, the department said on Facebook.
