Mass Officer Narrowly Avoids Falling Tree That Crushes His Cruiser
An officer on patrol Saturday, Sept. 16, in Norfolk County said he just barely escaped a large tree that fell and crushed his police cruiser, authorities said. The officer was outside his patrol car responding to a call of low-hanging wires near the intersection of South Main Street and River Road in Cohasset when he heard a loud snap nearby and watched as a giant tree fell toward him. Falling Tree Kills Baby Riding In Car In Western Mass: DA's Office
A infant was killed Friday afternoon, Feb. 3, when a falling tree crashed into the car they were riding in, authorities said. The incident happened just before noon along Route 57 (Feeding Hills Road) in Southwick, MA, Hamden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said. The driver, a 23-year-old woman from Winstead, CT, was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries. Gulluni said the child was the woman's niece. A portion of Route 57 near Foster Road was shut down Friday afternoon as police cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Avalanche Damages Ski Resort In Hudson Valley During Christmas Storm
A ski resort in the Hudson Valley sustained some serious damage after an avalanche. The incident happened during the severe storm on Friday morning, Dec. 25 at Belleayre Mountain, located in Highmount in Ulster County, when the snow slid into one of the resort's lodges. "Thankfully, the building was not occupied and no one was injured during this weather event," Belleayre Mountain said in a statement.
