New Listeria Outbreak With Unknown Food Source Under Investigation In NY
A new multi-state outbreak of infections from Listeria is under investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "A specific food item has not yet been identified as the source of this outbreak," the CDC said in a statement released on Wednesday, Feb. 15. "However, CDC is concerned that several recent illnesses have been reported. Listeria illness is rare, but it can result in serious illness or death." A total of 11 illnesses have been reported in 10 states, including New York, shown in the image above. Of those states, Michigan is the only state with more than one il…

First US Monkeypox Cases In Children Confirmed: Here's New State-By-State Breakdown
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed the first case of monkeypox among children in the United States. Those two cases are part of a record outbreak of nearly 2,900 infections nationwide. The unrelated cases, in an infant and a toddler -- one in California and the other in Washington, DC -- are unrelated and likely the result of household transmission, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told The Washington Post on Friday, July 22. New York accounts for about 31 percent of the nation's 2,891 monkeypox cases with 900, followed by California (356). For a state-by-sta…

CDC Issues New Monkeypox Guidance Amid Increase In Cases
Amid the largest monkeypox outbreak ever in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new guidance. Since May 2022, monkeypox cases, which have historically been rare in the United States, have been identified in 18 states and territories among both persons returning from international travel and their close contacts domestically, the CDC said. The CDC said there have now been 72 confirmed cases of monkeypox -- a big jump from the 19 cases reported at the beginning of June. Globally, more than 1,600 cases have been reported from more than 30 countri…

19: Here's Percentage Of Americans Who've Never Had Virus, Chances Of Getting It Now
After weathering the winter storm of new COVID-19 infections, some Americans who never got vaccinated against the virus are questioning whether they can relax or should be worried. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by the end of January, 43.4 percent of Americans had antibodies to the virus that was triggered by infection, not by vaccination, leaving approximately 57 percent of the population who have not been infected at all. Doctors and researchers have not been able to pinpoint why exactly some Americans were more susceptible to the virus, while oth…

19: US Exiting 'Full-Blown' Phase Of Pandemic, Restrictions Could End Soon, Fauci Says
The light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel may be fast approaching, according to infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci. With the number of new infections and hospitalizations plummeting over the past several weeks, Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, said that the US is almost past the “full-blown” pandemic phase. If Fauci’s prediction holds true, it could lead to a rollback of virus-related restrictions and mandates sooner than later, including an end to mandatory mask wearing by the end of 2022. “As we get out of the full-blown pandemic phase of COVID-19,” Fauci s…

19: Fauci Offers New Prediction On When Omicron Wave May Break
Things could get worse before they get better as the Omicron COVID-19 variant begins to take over, according to infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci. Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor, said that the US will likely hit one million daily new COVID-19 cases, though there could be relief in a few weeks until the number of new infections begins to plateau. “I would hope - I can’t predict accurately, because no one can - but I would hope that by the time we get to the fourth week in January - end of the third week, beginning of the fourth week – that we will start see thi…

19: Omicron Surge Will Make It Hard To Keep Everyday Life Operating, Medical Expert Warns
An infectious disease expert said the growing surge in COVID-19 cases led by the Omicron variant will make it difficult for the United States to keep everyday life operating. Dr. Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, made the comment in an interview with MSNBC on Thursday, Dec. 30. "Over the next three to four weeks we are going to see the number of cases in this country rise so dramatically, that we're going to have a hard time keeping everyday life operating," he said. Osterholm added that the country is s…

19: NFL, NBA, NHL Seeing Marquee Players Sidelined By Virus
The winter surge of new COVID-19 cases is wreaking havoc on professional sports leagues, which have seen some top stars sidelined with the virus and other teams struggling to have enough eligible players. Major sports stars in the NFL, NBA, and NHL have been forced to watch their teams from the bench at home in recent weeks due to outbreaks of COVID-19 that have forced close contacts away from their teams. The hits keep coming despite the leagues heavily promoting and encouraging players and staff to get vaccinated. According to the NFL, approximately 95 percent of its players are vaccinat…

19: CDC Reveals Percentage Of Americans Who Haven't Gotten Second Dose
A significant number of Americans who received their first COVID-19 shot have missed their second dose, causing concern as the number of new cases from the Delta variant grows, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC said this week that more than 10 percent of Americans have received just one dose and opted to skip the second vaccine, which could prove problematic as the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant continues to rapidly spread and become more dominant. According to the CDC, just 88 percent of those who received one dose of the Moderna or Pfize…

19: CDC Director Warns Of 'Impending Doom,' As US Cases Rise; Biden Takes New Action
Alarm bells are ringing and red flags are flying for Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as she senses “impending doom” as the number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise amid a possible fourth wave, as the White House announced new actions. An emotional Walensky's voice broke during a briefing on Monday, March 29 as she cautioned Americans not to get complacent as a new wave of the virus could hit the country. “I’m (going to) lose the script and I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom,” she said from the W…
