Maddi's owner Adam Hicks posted that it was because of "circumstances beyond our control, we will be ceasing operations as of next weekend. It’s been a great 4+ years and we can thank our guests and staff enough."
The restaurant will open for a final time on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19.
Maddi's is just the latest restaurant in the Canal District to call it quits. Smokestack Urban Barbeque announced they would close on Saturday, according to This Week in Worcester. The restaurant has been on Green Street in the Canal District for 12 years.
Most of the responses to Maddi's announcement on social media were of shock.
"This makes me so sad!!! You are the BEST restaurant in the city of Worcester!," one person posted on Instagram.
"This breaks my heart," someone else wrote on Facebook. "Maddi's has been our go-to for the last couple of years. Hoping you're able to reopen at another location."
Others looked for someone to blame, and many lay these closures at the feet of Polar Park, which they say has caused parking problems and congestion that kept many loyal customers away.
"The city government did this," Andrew Klein posted on Facebook. "We did not need the ballpark. And now the ballpark and its traffic/parking have destroyed what was an up-and-coming area. All for a ballpark that isn’t making the money or was expected to. Nice going Worcester Government. Sellouts."
