Opening day at the Steve Benko Pool in New Canaan didn't go quite as planned. Instead of swimmers diving in, a Tesla did. A now-viral video taken by Kristen Schilo of New Canaan Dogs shows firefighters hoisting the electric vehicle from the pool at Waveny Park after it crashed through a fence and plunged into the water Tuesday morning, June 16. Police have released the findings of their investigation into the tragic Hersheypark wave pool drowning of 9-year-old Sophia Subedi, confirming her death was an accidental freshwater drowning. A Jersey Shore lifeguard was rushed to the hospital after being impaled by a beach umbrella stake on Wednesday, June 25, fire officials confirm. First responders were dispatched to the lifeguard stand around 9:31 a.m. at Third Avenue Beach in Asbury Park, where they found the victim already being treated by fellow beach patrol lifeguards, Fire Chief Kevin Keddy said.
