Fishermen first reported the roughly 18-foot whale near Cape Cod Bay on Sept. 6. It was wrapped in ropes and other fishing gear, preventing it from eating or swimming normally.  A rescue crew searched near Provincetown and Truro the next morning but could not find it. Leonel Santos-Diaz was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during a targeted operation on Sept. 2, the agency said. Authorities in El Salvador previously arrested Santos-Diaz on charges of aggravated homicide, illegal human trafficking, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to ICE. Kyle Carpenter, 35, faced murder and second-degree assault charges in the Nov. 13, 2019, stabbing at a Thompson home. A court found Carpenter not guilty because of mental disease during his trial in May. A three-judge panel ruled on Aug. 25 that Carpenter must remain under state supervision for 45 years. Mumbauer, of Danvers, died in Boston on Friday, Sept. 11. She was just 46 years old.  Born in Danvers on Nov. 3, 1979, Mumbauer graduated from Danvers High School. She studied nursing for two years at North Shore Community College. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Salem State University.
