No Jail Time For Ex-Mass. Officer Who Punched Handcuffed Man 13 Times: Feds
A former Weymouth police officer who was caught on video camera beating a handcuffed suspect will not serve any jail time, federal authorities said. Justin Chappell, 43, was sentenced to two years of supervised release, with the first six months to be spent under house arrest, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said on Tuesday, July 16. He must also complete 40 hours of community service each year of his supervised release. Teen ID'd As Person Killed In Springfield Shooting
Police have identified the 19-year-old man who died after being shot on Sunday, July 14, authorities said. Damontey Williams, of Springfield, was found shot just before 11 p.m. in the 100 block of Massasoit Street after a ShotSpotter alert sent police to the area, the Hampden District Attorney's Office said. Responders rushed him to Baystate Medical Center, where he died of his wounds. Springfield police are investigating the shooting. Authorities ask anyone with information on the killing to contact detectives at 413-787-6355.

Police ID Suspect In Murder Of 16-Year-Old Boy At Central Mass House Party
Authorities have identified a 20-year-old man as the shooter at a Worcester County house party in May that left a teenage boy dead. Police are asking the public to help track the man down. Erik Coelho Dos Santos, of Brockton, is wanted on a charge of murder, the Worcester County District Attorney's Office said on Tuesday, July 16. He is accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Ygor Correia, of Milford, at a house party in Northborough on May 12. Gary Zerola, a well-known Boston defense attorney who served as a former prosecutor in Suffolk and Essex counties, was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of 2021 rape, authorities said. Zerola, 52, of Salem, was found guilty last month after prosecutors said he broke into a 21-year-old woman's home in the middle of the night and sexually assaulted her. Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing Child In Berkshire County Busted In Florida: DA
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Florida and returned to Berkshire County to face charges that he molested a child, authorities said. Omar Soto-Rincon was arraigned in Pittsfield earlier this week on the charge of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office said. Prosecutors could not release any information about the alleged assault to protect the victim's identity. Soto-Rincon was being held on a $5,000 bond, officials said. Man Dies After Fall While Rock Climbing In Central Mass State Forest
A man fell and died on Thursday, July 11, in Leominster State Forest, the Worcester County District Attorney announced. Little is known as of Thursday night as State Police are investigating the circumstances around the death. Authorities also did not reveal any information on the victim. Western Mass Man Stalked, Threatened Prosecutor After Attacking His Own Mother: DA
A 28-year-old Hampshire County man accused of choking his mother until she passed out is now charged with stalking and threatening to murder the prosecutor of that case, authorities said. Cody Malone, of Northampton, is charged with stalking, criminal harassment, intimidation of a prosecutor, and threatening to commit murder, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said. Teen ID'd As Victim In Fatal Springfield Crash On I-91
Authorities in Hampden County have identified the victim of a fatal crash last week on I-91 as a 15-year-old boy. State police were called to the crash site around 4:30 p.m. near northbound Exit 5 on July 2, authorities said. Police and paramedics provided medical aid at the scene of the crash, state police said. It's unclear if the teenager died at the scene or a nearby hospital. The boy's name will not be released because of his age.
