New charges leveled against a former gym teacher bring the number of children he is accused of sexually abusing up to 12, Salem News reported. All of the survivors of the former teacher's abuse are girls aged between six and eight, the outlet reports. North Andover resident Daniel Hakim, 36, was arrested in June for 32 counts of aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, according to authorities. Former Peabody Gym Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Students For Over 30 Years
Thirteen former students from two Peabody middle schools have filed a lawsuit citing decades of sexual abuse from their former gym teacher. The lawsuit claims James Toltz, age 80, could have sexually abused up to 150 students at Higgins Middle School and John F. Kennedy Junior High School over 34 years. The suit also criticizes the City of Peabody for not properly training, supervising or discipling Toltz during his time at each school from 1969 to 1996. Ipswich Man, 70, Killed After Intentionally Stepping In Front Of Train: MBTA
A 70-year-old Ipswich died Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, after authorities said he intentionally stepped in front of an oncoming train. The man was walking along MBTA property off of Linebrook Road around 9 a.m. when he stepped onto the tracks and stood in the way of the train, MBTA officials said in an email to Salem News. He was still alive when officers arrived, and they provided what medical aid they could until paramedics rushed him to Beverly Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead when he arrived, Ipswich police said. Ex Lynn Probation Officer Who Sexually Exploited 13-Year-Old Gets 17 Years In Prison: Feds
A 49-year-old former assistant chief probation officer in Lynn will spend the next 17 years in prison after a federal court found he sent sexually explicit photos and videos to a 13-year-old girl and coerced her to reciprocate, authorities said. Brian Orlandella of Beverly was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child and sending obscene material to a minor in April, but a judge didn't impose a sentence until Friday, Aug. 5, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts said.
