Woman Admits To Killing Owner Of Eastern Mass Greenhouse, Leading To Its Closure: DA
A 71-year-old woman pleaded guilty Tuesday, Aug. 15, to driving into and killing one of the family members who owned the Byfield Greenhouse and Garden Center last year, authorities said.
Janet Bach, of Marblehead, was given an 18-month suspended sentence and three years probation after pleading guilty to motor vehicle homicide, the Essex County District Attorney said. She will also lose her license for 15 years and must pay $8,700 for the funeral expenses of the woman she killed: Susan Sforza Nico, 47, of Seabrook, New Hampshire.

A bicyclist from Massachusetts has died after he was hit by a truck while competing in a race in Vermont last weekend, according to authorities.
Police responded to a crash between a pick-up truck and bicyclist near the intersection of Brook and Carter roads in Burke, VT, around 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, Vermont State Police report.
Initial investigation determined that the bicyclist, later identified as 54-year-old Richard Wanstall, of Marblehead, MA, was participating in a local race when he was hit by a Dodge truck.

A Marblehead artist and photographer wanted her 40th year of life to be "vibrant," but was instead delivered a breast cancer diagnosis.
Danielle Wehunt, a single mother of two, received her diagnosis, an experience she called "traumatic," on February 22, 2023, according to her website and a GoFundMe created by her friend.

Two Massachusetts Communities Rank High In 'Best Coastal Small Towns' List
A pair of Massachusetts towns nestled by the Atlantic coast were recognized for their "tranquility and charm" on USA Today's list of 10 best coastal small towns in the US.
Marblehead, in Essex County, scored the number three spot on USA Today's list, ranking just below Sandusky, Ohio, and Stuart, Florida, which held the number one and number two spot, respectively.
The town, home to 19,808 residents, is known for its "quaint narrow streets and historic 17th and 18th-century buildings," according to the town website.

The family of a missing man who was a "dive in head first kind of guy" got closure after authorities found his body seven weeks after he was last seen.
31-year old Mike Gray, of Peabody, waded into frosty water at Juniper Beach in Salem on December 10, 2022 to clear his mind with his hobby of cold plunging, according to a Facebook post made by Gray's widow, Julie LoRusso. In an "innocent but reckless mistake," Gray cold plunged alone at night in temperatures of 23 degrees Fahrenheit with water temperatures even lower, LoRusso said.
