Investigators ID Causes Of Fatal Fires In Newton, Lowell; Victims ID'd
Fire investigators believe they've identified the culprit behind two fatal fires in Newton and Lowell earlier this month — smoking materials. The first fire was reported on Farmland Road in Lowell on March 16. Investigators say the blaze began in the back left corner of the second floor near a bed. Charles Bearden, 56, died in the blaze, and an unidentified person was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Lowell Fire Chief Phillip A.J. The house fire brought firefighters to Andrews Street in Lowell around 4 a.m. this morning, according to the Lowell Fire Department. Firefighters cut through walls to put out a two-alarm fire and rescued one pet cat, but the burning led to the death of another cat and the displacement of a family of four, officials say. Firefighters in Lowell were on the scene of a three-alarm blaze Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 9. The first call for help went out around 2:30 p.m. to 700 Broadway Street, but the fire grew quickly. It became a three-alarm blaze within 30 minutes. Officials have not said what building is on fire or what may have caused it, but the Don Kennet Auto Body Supplies is located in that area.
