A fundraiser for the 29-year-old Hampden County police officer who was wounded in a shootout over the weekend in Wilbraham has nearly tripled its initial goal in less than a day. A 54-year-old was identified as the man who drowned in a fast-moving river in Byfield on Thursday, Jan. 11, authorities said. David Harwood, of Byfield, died after he got tangled in some brush in the Parker River near Forest and River streets, the Essex County District Attorney said. A Massachusetts State Trooper surveying a wreck in Milton early Sunday morning, June 25, was hit by a car on Route 93, authorities said.
