The body of a Berkshire County-born US Airman killed in Japan will return home on Friday, Dec. 15, and the community has planned a public funeral procession to honor his sacrifice. Staff Sgt. Jacob Galliher, age 24, of Pittsfield, died when the Osprey he was in crashed near the island of Yakushima, Japan, on Nov. 29 during a training exercise. 'He Was The Best': US Airman From Berkshire County Killed In Military Aircraft Crash In Japan
A US Airman from Berkshire County was one of eight servicemembers who died this week when an Osprey aircraft crashed off the coast of Japan during a routine training exercise, the Pittsfield Police Department confirmed on Friday, Dec. 1. Jacob "Jake" Galliher, a 24-year-old father of two from Pittsfield, was aboard the aircraft that went down near the island of Yakushima on Wednesday.
