A Hampden County man has been charged with a "galling" crime after he left his ill mother in a bed for months without moving her, causing severe infections and illness that led to her death, authorities said.
David Reed, 59, of Southwick, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, a caretaker permitting serious bodily injury to an elderly or disabled person, abuse/neglect/mistreatment to an elderly or disabled person, the Hampden County District Attorney said. The mother of a 10-year-old girl who was shot in Springfield earlier this week in a murder-suicide has died in the hospital, her mother announced on Facebook.
Aubrianna Lynn was shot on Monday, Aug. 14, along with her 12-year-old sister and grandmother, Kim Fairbanks, at their home at 174 Berkshire Ave., Springfield police said. Their upstairs neighbor Victor Nieves, who knew the family well, pulled the trigger before killing himself, police said.

Police have identified the man they say killed a grandmother and shot two of her grandchildren in a Springfield home Monday, Aug. 14, before he turned the gun on himself.
Victor Nieves, 34, of Springfield, is believed to have killed Kim Fairbanks, 52, of Springfield, at 174 Berkshire Ave. just after 2:30 p.m., the Hampden District Attorney's Office said.
