Timy Jo Griffin, 28, of Long Beach, California, admitted to one count of involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday, April 4, the Plymouth District Attorney's Office said. A judge sentenced Griffin to 10 years to 10 years and a day for the killing.
Brockton police raced to the home of Griffin's girlfriend on Dec. 5, 2016, after he called 911 when the child was unresponsive. Paramedics rushed him to Brockton Hospital, and he was later airlifted to Mass General, where the boy died five days later, the DA's office said.
Griffin, who was watching the child, told police the infant had a tantrum, fell off his toddler bed, and hit his head. But doctors and experts told investigators that the child showed signs that he'd likely been violently shaken or slammed against something, the prosecutor said.
Jury selection in Griffin's trial was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
