The Foxobrough Board of Selection unanimously approved an amendment to Gillette Stadium's alcohol license to allow an experimental self-service beer dispenser, the outlet reports.
The dispenser works by customers inserting their credit card, selecting one of four available beers that then flows into a cup placed underneath the machine, the outlet reports.
James Nolan, chief operating officer for Kraft Sports & Entertainment, said the purpose of the gadget is to help speed up purchases and cut down on overcrowding during peak times.
“We have a lot of pressure on the north end, at the 100 level, of the stadium,” he told The Sun. “Halftime of an NFL game is crazy.”
Certified attendants will check IDs, assess sobriety and oversee the beer sales as well, Nolan added. Right now, Gillette plans on installing one unit during the 2023 season, the outlet reports. If that goes well, more units will pop up throughout the stadium.
“We want to make sure that it works for our customers,” Nolan told The Sun. “We want to make sure it’s a fast transaction.”
