Strong Cold Front Sweeping Through Region, Triggering Thunderstorms, Showers

A strong cold front accompanied by showers and thunderstorms is now sweeping through the region.

Temperatures will become lower starting Tuesday, Oct. 8, with overnight lows in the 40s, and dipping into the 30s in upstate New York and northern New England.

It will be followed by the season's coolest air, and some parts of the Northeast will see snowfall for the first time this season.

Precipitation will continue until around midday on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

About a quarter-inch of precipitation is expected with higher amounts where there are storms.

As skies gradually clear in the afternoon, Monday's high temperature will climb to around 70 degrees.

Cool fall mornings are in store for Tuesday, Oct. 8, and beyond with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s.

"Typically when the first chill of the fall arrives in the Northeast, the season's first snowflakes aren't far behind," AccuWeather.com says.

There will be a chance for snow showers in areas with the highest elevations in upstate New York and northern New England.

"It is possible that in some of the ridges and peaks in the Adirondack, Green and White mountains, there is a light covering of snow," AccuWeather Meteorologist Grady Gilman said. 

Wednesday, Oct. 9 will be sunny and chilly, with a high temperature around 60 degrees.

Look for more of the same on Thursday, Oct. 10 with bright sunshine and a high temperature in the low 60s.

The outlook for Friday, Oct. 11 calls for cool conditions with highs in the low to mid-60s and sunny skies.
