The first half of the weekend will be marked by rainy, dreary conditions before a big change in the weather pattern. Precipitation will linger throughout the day and into the evening on Saturday, May 20, marking an end to a long stretch of dry days. A brand-new round of potentially severe, scattered thunderstorms is expected to sweep through the region amid a stretch of oppressive heat. The latest projected time frame for the system is from around midday until around 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, according to the National Weather Service. The arrival of a warm front will be accompanied by scattered thunderstorms that will bring locally heavy rain, gusty winds, small hail, according to the National Weather Service. The time frame for storm activity on Sunday, June 12 is from the mid-afternoon into the evening. A line of severe storms is moving through the region with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for much of the Northeast. It lasts until late in the evening on Wednesday, May 26. A bitterly cold and blustery weekend will be followed by a potentially significant winter storm early next week.
