An Oregon man has confessed to beating a 24-year-old woman to death with a hammer and raping her in a Massachusetts apartment building more than four decades ago, officials said.
John Michael Irmer, age 68, of Portland, Oregon, was scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Central Division on Monday, Sept. 11, for the rape and murder of 24-year-old Pennsylvania native Susan Marcia Rose in October 1979, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced.

A news report said that police in 2003 arrested a Quincy man accused of multiple violent rapes, but prosecutors dropped the charges.
Ivan Cheung, 42, is charged with four counts of rape — two against children — that allegedly happened in 2003, 2005, and 2006, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. Investigators arrested Cheung on Monday, Sept. 12. He did not appear at his initial hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 13, but his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, the prosecutor said.

Police say a 28-year-old Boston man brought a loaded, high-capacity 'ghost gun' with a laser sight with him to the Puerto Rican Festival last week.
Marc Serrano, of Dorchester, was arrested near Franklin Park as he left the festival on Saturday, July 30, because he had an outstanding assault and battery warrant, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. Boston Man Told Pregnant Woman To 'Go Freshen Up' After Beating Her, Infant
A Boston man is awaiting a dangerousness hearing after he was charged with beating a pregnant woman and assaulting an infant, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.
Marvin De La Cruz, age 23, attacked and strangled the woman, who is two months pregnant, while she was sleeping in her bedroom in Dorchester on Saturday, June 25, the office reports.
De La Cruz apparently punched the woman in the head, dragged her to the ground by her hair, and kicked her in the stomach, the office reports. He then proceeded to strangle her until she lost consciousness.

A Boston woman was arraigned in court on an animal cruelty charge stemming from the death of her dog earlier this dog, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.
Natividad Pizzaro, age 37, was ordered to not own or work with animals after her dog, named Beauty, died in February and from frostbite and severe emaciation, the office reports.

Man Allegedly Threatened To Stab Store Clerk In Greater Boston Area With 'Dirty' Needle
A Billerica man who failed to come to court after two incidents in Revere last year finally appeared before a judge last week, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.
Paul Gioiosa, 44, was arraigned in Chelsea District Court for the incidents on Thursday, June 2, the office said, one in which he allegedly threatened a store clerk with a "dirty" needle.
