American Express said it will pay $230 million to resolve federal investigations into deceptive sales tactics and recordkeeping violations involving small business credit card and wire transfer products. The credit card company agreed to pay a $108.7 million civil penalty, the Department of Justice said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 16. How To Get Your Share: Facebook Users Can Now Apply For Part Of $725M Settlement
Many Facebook users may soon have some money headed their way. Those who had an active account on Facebook anytime between May 2007 and December 2022 can now apply to receive a share of parent company Meta's $725 million settlement. The lawsuit alleged that Facebook permitted the former United Kingdom-based political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica to access about 87 million users' personal information during the 2016 presidential campaign. Massachusetts To Have $41M In Student Debt Canceled As Part Of $1.85B Settlement
A total of $41 million in private student loan debt will be canceled in Massachusetts after an investigation into one of largest student loan servicers in the United States found it deceived thousands of borrowers. Attorney General Maura Healey announced on Thursday, Jan. 13, that a coalition of 39 attorneys general negotiated the $1.85 billion settlement with Navient.
