Smoke From Canadian Wildfires Causing Hazy Skies In Much Of Northeast
The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies on Thursday, May 11, but smoke from Canadian wildfires over Ontario has spread across much of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, resulting in hazy conditions. "Wildfire smoke is more commonly seen in the sky during late summer and early fall around the peak of the annual wildfire season," according to AccuWeather.com, "but the smoke has made an early appearance this year due to a surge in fire activity in Alberta over the past week." New York City has issued a new mask advisory as officials anticipate the arrival of the new COVID-19 variant.
