A 28-year-old Hampden County man with an extensive criminal history and was out on bail for two gun-related charges has been accused of gunning down a Springfield man, police said. Ethan Fitzgerald, of Ludlow, is charged with murder, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a gun within 500 Feet of a building, Springfield police said. The mayor of Springfield said judges were being soft on crime and called for reforms after police last week arrested a man out on bail and a wanted fugitive with several open warrants after they found a loaded gun in their car, authorities said.
