Jose Diaz, age 28,was captured around 6 a.m., Sunday, June 27, in Springfield.
Diaz, of Springfield, was captured after officers received a call for an armed robbery in progress on Armory Street, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police.
Police were able to locate Diaz and the knife he allegedly used in the attempted armed robbery, police said.
Walsh said the store's clerk was able to get him out of the store without him stealing anything.
Prior to being booked, Walsh said Diaz also allegedly threatened to shoot an officer.
Diaz was charged with armed assault to rob and the threat to commit a crime.
